In order to preserve the health and safety of the residents of Greene County and our guests, the Stanardsville Independence Day Committee (SIDC) has come to the extremely difficult decision to cancel the annual Red, White, Blue n’ Greene July Independence Day celebration & community fireworks display for 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
The SIDC volunteers work extremely hard throughout the year to undertake the planning and fundraising for this event each summer. This celebration has traditionally included a parade, live music, children’s activities and fireworks -all of which we have been delivered to the community free of admission charges. When considering the COVID-19 related logistical challenges facing this year’s event however, the SIDC did not see any pathway forward which would allow hosting the event while being in alignment with the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) and Federal and State government guidance concerning large gatherings and social distancing. Additionally, the primary financial support & sponsorship for our Independence Day event comes from the generous support of the amazing small and local businesses in the community, many of whom have been greatly impacted by the pandemic.
The SIDC Logistics Director, Kristopher Rulison provided the following statement “We must proceed cautiously with in every decision that we make over the next few months to help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus. It is out of this abundance of caution for the general public that we are making the decision to cancel the Red White Blue n’ Greene celebration. We look forward to hosting future events in Greene County and will continue to provide information on our website and Facebook pages.
