The Town of Stanardsville and the Stanardsville Independence Day Committee (SIDC) jointly announce that the annual Red, White, Blue ‘n Greene (RWBnG) Independence Day Celebration will return this year with several changes. Please mark your calendars for Sunday, July 4th when our community takes a large step forward towards a sense of normalcy as we celebrate our shared American identity. Admission and parking are free.
Traditions & Small Town American Spirit Continue. The town’s annual Independence Day Parade will run its traditional route down Main Street in Stanardsville starting at 5 PM on Sunday, July 4th. Guests and visitors are asked to observe social distancing. Roads will be shut down at 4:30 PM to facilitate the parade and will remain closed until the parade ends. American Legion Post 128 will draw the winner of their raffle on the steps of the Herring Building at 5 PM as the parade approaches. Bishop Jackson has been named this year’s Grand Marshal in recognition of his years of service to our community. Please consider bringing bells, whistles and American flags to cheer on our Grand Marshal, first responders, veterans, teachers, and local businesses as they pass by on the streets of our small town.
Change Creates New Opportunities. Thanks to the generosity of M & M Service & Salvage Yard, guests are invited to continue the fun after the parade as the RWBnG moves to Morris Field. Morris Field is located at 13510 Spotswood Trail in Ruckersville, across Route 33 from Ruckersville Elementary School and is the site of the annual livestock show. There, from 6-10 PM, guests will enjoy food and drink offerings from food trucks, wares from local vendors, music featuring Lydia Station opening for Groove Train, bounce attractions, face painting, games and rides on the Stanardsville Express barrel train. The night will conclude with the Capitol Sheds Community Fireworks Display. Admission and parking are both free. Donations are appreciated. A 50/50 raffle will be held on-site with proceeds going to support and fund future SIDC events. Raffle tickets are on sale at the information tent. Keeping with SIDC tradition, vetted charitable organizations seeking to raise funds or boost awareness are offered free space.
Community Support Makes Growth Possible. The gracious support of M & M Service & Salvage Yard allows Capitol Sheds to safely grow their Community Fireworks Display—already one of the largest in central Virginia. “Guests should anticipate, weather permitting, that this year’s show will be the best yet!” says SIDC Chair, Michael Payne. “Much care and thought are going into the planning for the guest experience with a focus on safety.” Payne adds, “To make this year even more meaningful, the committee invites all children to bring flashlights to the field to help illuminate the American Flag during the National Anthem just before the fireworks begin.”
“We are excited to welcome guests back to the Red, White, Blue ‘n Greene. As a nation and as a community we have all been through the ringer the last year. It feels good to be moving towards normalcy and to be coming together again as a community,” says Stanardsville Mayor, Gary Lowe.
