The Stanardsville Independence Day Committee (SIDC) is pleased to announce that Bert Nye will be singing the National Anthem at this year’s Red, White, Blue ‘n Greene (RWBnG).
Music has been a large part of Mr. Nye’s life from the time he was 14-years old when his mother forced him to go to church choir rehearsal with the stern admonition, “You’re going, and you’re going to like it!” says Mr. Nye. Now, sixty plus years later, he says, “she was right!”
Mr. Nye has been active with semi-professional choruses like the Annapolis Chorale and the Virginia Oratorio Society as well as smaller community choruses like the Greene County Singers and the Madison Choral Society. He is currently also sings with Bel Canto in Madison.
“We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Nye back again this year and are grateful for his willingness to share his amazing talent with the community,” says Michael Payne, SIDC chair. “Mr. Nye has a lovely voice and always provides a stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. We are fortunate to have him and we know that the audience enjoys his rendition.”
All community members are invited to enjoy Mr. Nye’s performance on the evening of Thursday, July 4th at the William Monroe High School Football Field. Admission and parking are free. Events start with the town’s annual parade down Main Street at 5:30 PM and continues with live performances by Lydia Station, Cheap Whiskey and Groove Train. The Capitol Sheds Community Fireworks Display will complete the evening.
Also, please do not forget to collect your door prize ticket upon entering the stadium. A local service member has donated an American flag that was flown at the US Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan in remembrance of the men and women of our country’s armed forces whose sacrifices have enabled us to enjoy the freedom and independence that we celebrate on July 4th.
